On Saturday, Florida St. beat Virginia Tech by about two years. That’s how much farther along the Seminoles are in their rebuild.
Both Brent Pry and Mike Norvell have adopted the total rebuild model that seeks steady progress in all facets of the program and builds toward a finished product around year four.
For that reason, it is especially instructive to compare the two programs’ first couple of rebuild seasons.
If FSU is any indication, so far Virginia Tech appears to be right on track.
That said, if you have been frustrated at some point this year with the the product that the Hokies have put on the field, and really who hasn’t, then this is the podcast for you.
It’s easy to miss from the outside looking in, but FSU did not regain elite status overnight. The Seminoles suffered through a lot of the same struggles and maddening inconsistency that the Hokies are slogging through now.
In time, hard work and patience paid off in Tallahassee. Following this episode, listeners will be in a better position to judge if the same situation is likely to play out in Blacksburg.
