Tomorrow marks two years since Virginia Tech announced that it was parting ways with Justin Fuente. Brent Pry retained JC Price as Defensive Line Coach, but the other assistants scattered all over the country.

A central theme of this podcast episode is the importance of building a strong, and diverse resume prior to landing a major job. For most assistants searching for their next opportunity, it’s not so much about what you’ve done (or where you did it) as it is who you know.
Case in point: Shane Beamer. He has never been a coordinator at any level, but his first head coaching gig was at an SEC school (South Carolina). Bud Foster got nibbles for G5 head coaching jobs, but never anything like South Carolina.
But then, Bud spent his whole career working for Frank Beamer, then Justin Fuente at the end, past the point in which he would be considered for head coaching positions.
The Jack Tylers and Justin Hamiltons of the world now have their chance to be like Shane.
