Tyler Bowen was an offensive lineman in college. He has coached the o-line and tight ends at the college and professional level.

Before 2023, he had never coached quarterbacks.

Needless to say, coming off an initial season in which the offense appeared stuck in quicksand, Tyler Bowen was a controversial selection as Virginia Tech’s next quarterbacks coach.

The varying ups and downs of the offense as a whole has captured a lot of attention. Flying under the radar is the job Bowen has done coaching Grant Wells, Kyron Drones, and the other quarterbacks.

First things first, there has been no drop off in the passing department in 2023. In fact, things have gotten a bit better.

The pattern of improvement from 2021-23 is eerily similar to that from 2017-19.
