2023 Virginia Tech Final Report Card

Virginia Tech's year of strong gains marred by inconsistencies

Final grades are in, and while Virginia Tech was clearly a much improved team in 2023, there are still a handful of areas that held the team back.

Virginia Tech demonstrated strong improvement year-over-year across the 16 advanced metrics tracked on the report card.

However, Tech still ranked outside the top 100 teams nationally in three metrics (vs. four in 2022), and those deficiencies ultimately lowered the team’s ceiling.

Defensive explosiveness in the run game (103rd) is no surprise, as the team’s struggles to contain strong rushing teams is well worn territory.

The surprise comes in the other two metrics.
